Here I am crossing the Finish line for the New York Marathon on my 35 birthday. This was the culminating event in the recovery of my first marriage. I had changed careers and achieved my greatest athletic accomplishment in running the marathon under three hours. That morning I awoke early and caught the bus at Lincoln center for the starting line in Staten Island. This was my first time running the Marathon so I was placed in the starting line with the women. This was to be an advantage because I quickly was able to run ahead without congestion. The run through the city was exalting, cheering crowds made me feel like part of a conquering army never aware of the pain, moving ahead of people all the time. I had never timed myself before and when I reached the Bronx I was prepared to encounter the dreaded wall instead I felt a burst of energy. The wall hit me a thousand yards from the finish line.
